The Scottish Asbestos Helpline attended and supported a fund raising charity dinner on
12th May, 2017 on behalf of The Clydeside Action on Asbestos which was held at The
Glasgow Central Hotel in Glasgow. The evening was well attended and raised £35,000 in
support of asbestos victims and their families.
The Scottish Asbestos Helpline offer ‘no win no fee’ legal help and support to sufferers of
asbestos-related diseases including mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis, pleural
thickening and pleural plaques. An important role of the helpline is to listen to people’s
concerns and to assist them in making appropriate health choices which might include
seeking the opinion of their GP or to understand more about an earlier diagnosis or
opinion.
Common symptoms of an asbestos disease might include breathlessness, chest pain,
coughing, regular chest infections, unexplained weight loss, tiredness and the
temptation to attribute any of these conditions to age should be resisted in favour of
having your GP look closely at your health. Most conditions can be managed by lifestyle
changes and are not life threatening with early investigation and diagnosis providing
the best possible outcome.
Anyone with an asbestos-related health concern, whether they have been diagnosed or not, are invited to speak with the Scottish Asbestos Helpline on 0141 333 6750
